Today Global InterGold shares a piece of information about
how gold bars should look like and how they are made. Read this page and learn
what you didn’t know about the production of gold bars!
What information should be on a gold bar?
First, a gold bar — or also called gold bullion — is a
piece of fine gold which must meet standards of quality. The average quality of gold bars have 995 fineness, and the maximum reaches 999.99. LBMA issued the
Good Delivery Rules which states the minimum fineness for gold bars to be
traded in the London bullion market must be 995.
Also, a qualitative gold bar must have several marks on it namely:
>>>serial number,
>>>producer’s hallmark,
>>>fineness and
>>>the year of manufacture.

Step 1: Mining
The first step to make a gold bar is to extract gold. In
older times it was used hydraulic mining which implied water and high pressure,
but later it was replaced with explosive elements which separate gold from
deposits. The amazing fact is that to extract only 7 grams of this coveted
metal is usually needed 1 ton of gold. However, due to gold is a highly
valuable mineral, the game is worth the candle.
Step 2: Making
The second step is to refine gold and make a bar out of it.
As it was said previously, the fineness must be very high for a qualitative
gold bar. The technology used for refining by major gold bar producers implies
either electrolysis or pyrometallurgical chlorination. These imply difficult
chemical processes, after which gold is melted and poured into molds. Further
it can be put into a continuous casting machine which makes long and thin bars,
which are passed through a rolling mill and a gauging mill, heated, polished,
cleaned again and struck with a die. As a result one has a qualitative gold bar
which is ready to serve its owner.
What is the best use of a gold bar?
Of course the best way to use a gold bar is to keep it in
storage and back thus one’s funds. Nowadays gold bars are accessible for
whoever is interested.
